IDRC together with the Environmental Management Secretariat (EMS)
have started a search for potential instruments to analyse and understand cultural assessment alternatives and the management of cultural and natural heritage in sustainable development programmes in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The vision guiding this study is that an appropriate management of such resources would represent a coordinated action between different social actors in the generation of cultural, social and economic capital across the
region.
Local governments together with central government institutions and representatives of the private sector have started to generate initiatives along this line. Some of these initiatives represent important examples at the regional level. Thus, experiences are being systematised and new opportunities are being explored.
