Gérald Tremblay is a lawyer and a member of
the Barreau du Québec since 1970. He holds an MBA with distinction (1972) from
Harvard Business School.
He worked as a financial analyst with Dun &
Bradstreet before becoming senior associate and director general of a consulting
firm, member of the Sobeco Group Ernst & Young. He developed a new concept
for turning around businesses and applied it to the manufacturing, financial and
wholesale/retail sectors.
President of the Société de Développement
Industriel du Québec (SDI) from 1986 to 1989 he also sat on the board of
directors of the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec and on the executive
committee and board of directors of Hydro-Québec.
From 1989 to 1994, he was Minister of Industry,
Trade, Science and Technology, and he conceived and implemented the Quebec
economic strategy based on the industrial clusters concept.
Since May 1st, 1996, Mr. Tremblay is president
of the Centre de perfectionnement de l'École des Hautes Études Commerciales.
He is also founder of the Institute for social and economic progress.
He is also a member of the board of directors
of several public, private companies and non profit organisations.
Since November 4, 2001 Mayor of the new city of
Montreal.
