The participants met in the city of Montevideo to analyse the situation of the region in light of the issues raised the Forum. After a very thorough discussion that opened up new avenues for advancement in the design and management of a Knowledge Network, the participants agreed to:

• Proceed with the job of facilitating the implementation of a Network that allows for the effective use of knowledge in the definition of policies that promote sustainable local development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

• Study the contents of the Summary of Working Sessions attached, in order to further develop such contents as well as the policy for strategic alliances.

• Ask the Environmental Management Secretariat for Latin America and the Caribbean (EMS) of the International Development Research Centre (CIID/IDRC), to coordinate the necessary action to ensure continuity of such work.
